Advance Screenings

We are planning two more advance screenings of West by Orphan Train in eastern Iowa, where much of the film’s story takes place.

They include:

Nov. 16, 2 p.m., Figge Art Museum, Davenport, Iowa

Nov. 23, 6 p.m. Hopkinton Community Center, Hopkinton, Iowa.

And, finally, our Iowa broadcast has been scheduled, as well:

Dec. 1, 7 p.m., on Iowa Public Television

Thanks to the 400-plus of you who showed up for our first screening last week in DeWitt. You were a great audience.

  1. I love your story. My grandpa grew up with a boy who his father took from the Orphan Train in West Bend, Iowa. His name was Fred Johnson, and no on knew where he came from.

Also one of my friend’s grandpa was on an Orphan Train and adopted by someone in West Bend and they named him Charlie Thatcher, the last name of the farmer.

Neither is listed under West Bend, though.

Thanks for doing all this research and bringing it to light.

    • My Father was on an orphan train and dropped of at Grundy Center, Iowa. His name is listed on your train map. Henry A Saake..The Bode family adopted him and I have a video of an Aunt that was personally there when he was picked up. Also, it was discovered some years later that the blood father was still alive in Brooklyn, NY. I live in California and would love to see your documentary thank you Ron Bode
